Classical Pianist, Eleanor Meynell & Violinist Ellie Fagg
Using the beautiful St Bartholomew’s Church we are delighted to be presenting prize-winning pianist and singer, Eleanor Meynell and award-winning violinist, Ellie Fagg for a very special performance.
In this ‘taster’ concert to introduce a brand new chamber music series next year, we perform two sonatas for violin and piano that have become favourites in concert programmes: Debussy’s only Violin Sonata and Beethoven’s well-loved Spring Sonata. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Debussy’s death. It was written against the backdrop of World War 1, when Debussy was dying of cancer and in fact, it is the last piece of music he wrote. It seems to have an ethereal, otherworldly quality to it and is extremely poignant and beautiful. Beethoven wrote 10 Violin and Piano sonatas and this is number 5. The general mood is sunny and happy with fun, virtuoso writing for both piano and violin and is very much a duo between the two instruments.
We hope you will be able to stay afterwards and join us for a glass of wine and chat with the performers.
