We are running two FREE events in our Festival Programme for community engagement with Dance as our theme.
Your pledge will help support two key events in our Summer & Sydenham Festival. We are a community focussed arts charity, reliant on a mix of funding to deliver arts events to a wide audience. Read on to learn more.
Following our successful Jamaican & Scottish mash up Jah Burns in January, Step Lively come to Mayow Park to bring us London’s biggest barn dance and ceilidh on Saturday 8 July suitable for all ages. Visit our Crowdfunder page for more details.
Your contribution will help towards the cost of staging, lighting, generators, artists fees, a proportion of fees for marketing, social media, website and brochure costs. Please help spread the word!
Step Lively are a four-piece band featuring Kate Hands on fiddle, Rich Baker on guitar, Nigel Austen on accordion and Rick Townend caller and MC. They will be playing tunes from all around the British Isles, USA and Europe to get your feet moving. No experience needed their expert caller will walk everyone through each dance before the band lets rip. There will be dances for children, old and young, polkas, Gay Gordons, Hoe Downs, Do si dos, jigs and reels and lots of laughs. Pop up stalls will be provided Brown & Green Cafe and Ignition Beer together with face painting. Take your partners for a great day with Step Lively in Mayow Park!
We are also presenting a lunchtime special event dedicated to our 60 plus age group on Wednesday 12 July Upstairs at the Sydenham Centre. Join us to hear the soulful tones of singer, Harriet Eaves and to have the opportunity to learn salsa with local dancer Yamile. Our 60 plus events last year were a great hit. Many of our attendees spoke of the loneliness that comes from losing a partner and friends. For us it is key that we maintain these events to create, connect and engage our older generation as well as all others in our community.
