Girls Allowed! Poetry Competition Terms & Conditions
Entries must be in English, but can be in a dialect, accent or patois (must be understandable by the judges). No profanities, please!
They must be your own work and cannot be a translation of another poet’s work.
They must not have been previously published, though we will allow entries that have appeared in school magazines or journals.
You can enter as many poems as you like. The fee for entry is £3 per poem or £10 for 5.
Payable by cheque to Sydenham Arts Ltd. The closing date for receipt of entries is 21 June 2017. Winners will be notified by 1 July. Send your entries to: Girls Allowed Poetry Competition, Sydenham Arts Ltd, 44a Sydenham Road, London SE26 5QX.
There will be three prizes:
1st prize £50
2nd prize £25
3rd prize £10
The winners of the top three prizes and the five best runners-up will have a chance to read their work at a poetry event in the 2017 Summer Festival. Winning poems will also be displayed along the high street between 6-16 July.
The first prize winner will also have the opportunity to read their work at the opening event of the festival before the main act of the evening.
You will retain copyright of your own work, but the festival reserves the right to publish the winning poems on its website and in any printed publicity material for 12 months after the closing date.
The judge’s decision is final. Your entry in the competition means you must abide by the rules.
Please send your entries, written or printed on one side of A4 size paper. The poems will be judged anonymously, so do not put your name on the poem, but send an accompanying sheet, with your name and address, contact number or email address, and the title of your poem. You will not be able to make any changes to your poems once you have entered.
