Overview

In celebration of both Black History Month and Halloween, we're paying homage to the influential filmmaker Jordan Peele who's ground breaking films paved the way for a new era of Black horror. Nope embraces a predominantly Black cast in a "flying saucer movie," that pushes horror genre boundaries.

Emerald (Keke Palmer) and OJ (Daniel Kaluuya) are sibling caretakers of a horse ranch based out of a lonely gulch in inland California. When the pair stumble upon an uncanny and chilling discovery one night, they find themselves and the gulch’s residents exposed to a mysterious force that seems to affect both human and animal behaviour.

We are also delighted filmmaker and digital artist Grier Iana will introduce her new short-film 'The Watchers' at our October Film Screening.

Grier Iana's short film is supported through Sydenham Arts' START: Creative Futures Micro-Grant programme, and she will be taking us through some of her creative processes, ideas and inspirations.
