‘I am a mixed media artist based in Hertfordshire and London. My most recent artwork has taken the form of collage. I combine pencil sketches with watercolour paint and inks, water-soluble pastels, magazine clippings and gouache paint. The placement of each component is important; each piece has its own private story for the viewer to unpick. Through my work, I hope the seemingly mundane drama of everyday life is given an added significance, those small exchanges of expression; the feel of a loved one’s shoulder; the moment you realise things weren’t as you thought.
I hold a BA (Hons) from Wimbledon College of Art and an MA from the University of Manchester. I also work in video, installation, mural creation and performance design. A keen storyteller, I am inherently interested in the relationship between visual art and narrative, alongside archival material, pop culture and bingo. Private moments, transient places and our obsession to be ‘someone’ are commonly explored themes in my work.
I am the associate artist for Sydenham Arts under 5 group, Little Syd., which aims to inspire families to get creative at home using free or cheap materials. During lockdown, we have chosen to focus each week on an artist/exhibition that has been affected or forced to close due to the virus in an aim to showcase their work, and inspire families to get creative at home together. We encourage ongoing projects that toddlers or young children can revisit, reinvent and get messy in the process! You can join the group on the Sydenham Arts official Facebook page or follow the hashtag #littlesydcreates on Facebook or Instagram for weekly updates. ‘
