‘I believe that beyond appearances, everything is fundamentally one.
I’m aiming to convey this concept of unity in my art works. I’m driven by the aspiration to be able to look beyond and capture what my eyes can not see. My creations reflect my search of a bigger picture, the point where boundaries melt into a whole. In order to express this idea, my works often appear to be transforming from one object to another or to an abstract element, since everything in this world is in a constant process of change. As I see it, change is motion, something that doesn’t stand still. Hence, I’m trying to convey a sense of movement and flow in my sculptures, though they are actually static objects. I tend to merge lines and figures to make the sculptures interact with the space around them, as the space is an essential part of them. Thus, to emphasize that nothing ends here and now, rather than there is continuity to everything.
There’s a lot of flexibility in my creative process, a little like a dance. I always start by describing an object, though the lines defining it somewhere get life of their own, liberated from any realistic description. That’s what I love about this process, although I know where it starts, I don’t always know where it’s going to take me. Sometimes I feel as if the flowing lines guide me and not the other way around. I just let the inspiration lead me.’
