Our next Platform explores another multi-arts journey through physical theatre and dance

Under the Horse – Written by Fiona Harper and devised by Leah Georges from Limb2Limb, together with Elaine Johnson especially for Sydenham Arts.

Under the Horse, is a poem brought to life through theatre and physicality. The poem is dedicated to Emily Wilding Davison, a suffragette who fought for votes for women in Britain.  She was a member of the Women’s Social and Political Union and a militant fighter for her cause.  Arrested on ten occasions, went on hunger strike seven times and was force fed on forty-nine occasions.  In 1913 she threw herself under the Kings Horse in the Derby and subsequently died on the 8th June. The poem is an examination of a woman’s mindset in today’s world. How far have we have come since we gained the vote in 1928?

Supported by Arts Council England and PropertyWorld our Platform Series is a celebration of Women, BAME and LGBTQQ performers.  Running monthly (not August) until November 2019.
