What is poetry town?

Poetry Town began in 2015 with a weekly poem displayed in the window of Kirkdale Bookshop. Following overwhelmingly positive responses from customers we have decided to partner with Sydenham Arts to build on the idea and fill Sydenham with poetry not just by famous poets but by local people, both young and old.
The Moon is Up by By Grace (aged 11)
30th May 2018

The moon is up
There is darkness all around
Not even a flicker of light to be found
The wind is howling
Storms a brewing
No one knows what the sky is doing
As it starts to get cold
Cold as ice
The creatures come out and flurry like mice
All in our beds cosy and warm
None can wait till the calls of dawn

As the clouds roll on grey and misty
The icy windows are cold and crispy
Not a sight to be seen not a sound to be heard
Not one little soul says one little word
Owls hooting foxes yelping
No earplugs or ear muffs can be a helping
But all in our beds cosy and warm
None can wait till the calls of dawn
